Little did I know that in documenting the union of Antonio and Thibeau, I would be capturing my own dream.Antonio and Thibeau are integral members of the queer community in Paris, known for organizing themed gay nights amidst the glittering Parisian nightlife. Their wedding wasn’t just about vows and rings; it was a celebration of freedom, an opportunity to share their love and emotions with friends without the burden of societal expectations. And in me, they found a photographer who understood and shared their vision.Their wedding story transcended boundaries and caught the attention of two of the world’s most prestigious wedding photography competitions—the MYWED Association’s contest and the WPPI in Las Vegas. MYWED, an association born in Russia, honored me with the title of World Photographer of the Year in 2020, while the previous year, WPPI bestowed its highest recognition upon this work of art.The monochromatic presentation was a deliberate stylistic choice, aimed at maintaining coherence—a common criterion for competition submissions. The documentary style of photography, with minimal posed shots, aimed to capture the authenticity of the moment. The crisp black and white post-production added a timeless quality to the images, imbuing them with a sense of immortality unique to monochrome photography.This body of work is unconventional, provocative, and undoubtedly evocative. It challenges the conventional norms of wedding photography, offering a fresh perspective that refuses to be ignored. It provided me with a platform to express my artistic vision—a vision that resonated with audiences worldwide.To this day, I believe there hasn’t been another work quite like this on the global stage. The accolades it received weren’t just surprising; they were unanimous, a testament to its impact and significance. I take immense pride in having realized a dream—a dream shared by many within and beyond the LGBTQ+ community.Capturing this wedding wasn’t a solitary endeavor; it was a collaborative effort. Alongside my colleague and best friend, Maria Zavaglia, I navigated through a whirlwind of emotions—tears, laughter, and just the right amount of madness that adds flavor to life.In the end, it wasn’t just about photographing a wedding; it was about capturing a moment in time—a celebration of love, freedom, and authenticity. The wedding was celebrated in the beautiful region of Puglia, one of Italy’s most stunning regions, in Alberobello, which became part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. It was a wonderful setting for this groundbreaking marriage. In recent years, Puglia has gained prominence in the news for being chosen as the location for numerous weddings of internationally renowned artists. It continues to be favored by many foreign couples who select it for their wedding celebrations.
